Chris Martin, who has missed a month with elbow soreness, is likely to come off the injured list on Wednesday.

Previous indications were that Martin would begin a rehab assignment Wednesday, but it appears the Red Sox will activate him without one. Cooper Criswell or Josh Winckowski could be demoted.
Masataka Yoshida

Masataka Yoshida went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored against the Royals on Monday.

Yoshida has been hot at the plate lately and that continued with his four-hit effort on Monday. He’s 32-for-98 (.326) with three home runs and 21 RBI over his last 26 games. Yoshida is hitting .277 with a .745 OPS and 34 RBI on the year.
Jarren Duran

BOS Center Fielder #16

Jarren Duran went 1-for-5 with three RBI against the Royals on Monday.

Duran drove in a run with a groundout in the second inning. In the sixth inning, he drove in two more with a two-out double off Angel Zerpa. Duran is having a stellar season. He’s hitting .295 with an .867 OPS and 58 RBI on the year.
James Paxton

BOS Starting Pitcher #65

James Paxton allowed two runs in six innings and got the win in the Red Sox’ 9-5 victory over the Royals on Monday.

Paxton gave up five hits, walked one and struck out four. The win was his ninth of the year and first since he was traded to Boston. It was his first quality start since June 17th. Paxton has a 4.42 ERA on the year. The 35-year-old left-hander is set to face the Astros at home this weekend.

Justin Slaten has extended his throwing program to 120 feet as he makes his way back from elbow inflammation.

Slaten is still a couple of weeks away from a rehab assignment, but he could be back before the end of August if all goes as hoped.

Tyler O’Neill, missing a third straight start due to an illness, is available off the bench Monday.

Manager Alex Cora said O’Neill, who still isn’t back to full strength, probably won’t rejoin the starting lineup until Wednesday.

Wilyer Abreu hit a pair of homers Sunday to drive in four runs and propel the Red Sox past the Rangers 7-2.

No one would have blamed Abreu for sitting this one out after learning that his grandmother died last night, but he turned in an inspired performance instead. He has three homers in three games this month and six to go along with a .312 average and nine doubles in his last 26 games.
Nick Pivetta

BOS Starting Pitcher #37

Nick Pivetta was pulled one out shy of qualifying for a win Sunday, having allowed two runs in 4 2/3 against the Rangers.

The runs came on homers from Corey Seager and Josh Jung in the first two innings. Pivetta was lifted after just 70 pitches with no one on in a 3-2 game, perhaps in part because his velocity was down significantly today. His 91.9 mph average on his fastball was off from his yearly norm by 2.2 mph. That seems a little worrisome heading into the stretch run here.
Jarren Duran

Jarred Duran went 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBI, two steals and a walk Sunday against the Rangers.

Duran appeared to injure his right side during an at-bat Saturday, but he remained in after a visit from the trainer and, obviously, he remained in the lineup today. The All-Star has started all 110 games for Boston this season.
Tyler O'Neill

BOS Right Fielder #17

Tyler O’Neill (illness) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday’s tilt against the Rangers.

O’Neill was held out Saturday due to an illness, and the Red Sox will give the 29-year-old another day off for the series finale against the Rangers. Rob Refsnyder will get the start in left field and hit third against Nathan Eovaldi.
