Alex Bregman went 1-for-5 with a solo home run against the Rangers on Monday.

Bregman’s home run was his 15th of the season. He hit a solo home run off Andrew Heaney in the third inning. Bregman has six home runs and 15 RBI in his last 25 games. He’s hitting .248 with a .717 OPS and 52 RBI on the year.

Hunter Brown allowed one run in six innings and got a no-decision against the Rangers on Monday.

Brown gave up three hits, walked two and struck out four. He allowed a sacrifice fly to Leody Taveras in the fifth inning. Brown had a 16.43 ERA after three starts this season, but has a 3.14 ERA over his last 19 starts and one relief appearance. He has a 3.98 ERA on the year. The 25-year-old right-hander is set to face the Red Sox on the road this weekend.

Spencer Arrighetti allowed one run in six innings and struck out 12 against the Rays on Sunday.

Arrighetti was on the wrong side of a 1-0 decision. The 12 strikeouts were a career-high and the most of any Astros pitcher this season. He gave up five hits, walked two batters and had a 42 percent whiff rate. Arrighetti is now firmly in the streamer conversation in mixed formats. The 24-year-old right-hander is set to face the Red Sox on the road next week.

Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters before Sunday’s game that it was “pretty safe to say” that Lance McCullers Jr. (forearm) won’t pitch in 2024.

McCullers hasn’t been able to throw a pitch in an MLB game since 2022, and suffered another setback in early July with renewed arm discomfort. The right-hander will attempt to get back on the mound in 2025, but it’s very possible his days of fantasy relevance are over.

HOU Starting Pitcher #35

Justin Verlander (neck) threw a simulated game before Sunday’s tilt against the Rays.

Verlander faced off against Aledmys Diaz and Trey Cabbage in the simulated outing. He threw 37 pitches and was clocked as high as 94 mh with his fastball. It’s the second time in five days that the right-hander has thrown a live bullpen as he works his way back from the neck trouble that has sidelined him since June. A rehab start could be next, and Verlander has a chance to rejoin the Astros in the middle of August.

HOU First Baseman #28

Jon Singleton went 1-for-3 with a home run in a loss to the Rays on Saturday.

Singleton hit a 352-foot shot that had an xBA of .150 and would have only been a home run in eight other stadiums, but it counts just the same. He has nine home runs on the season and is hitting under .200 in 14 games since the All-Star break. Despite mediocre performance, it appears likely Singleton will remain the primary first baseman in Houston.

Ronel Blanco allowed two runs on six hits in five innings in a loss to the Rays on Saturday.

Blanco kept the Rays off the board before allowing a two-run home run to Josh Lowe in the fifth. He wasn’t as sharp with his command as we’ve seen in the past, but it was a pretty strong start overall, notching seven strikeouts with a 38 percent whiff rate and 33 percent CSW. The 30-year-old will take a 2.98 ERA into a tough matchup against Boston in Fenway next week.
Kyle Tucker

HOU Left Fielder #30

Astros’ manager Joe Espada was asked on Saturday if he thought Kyle Tucker (shin) could rejoin the team before September and Espada noted, “It would be too aggressive for me to say we’ll have him by the end of the month”.

Tucker, who has been sidelined since early June due to a bruised shin — that was a probably a fracture that was misdiagnosed — is going to ramp up activities soon to see exactly where he’s at and hopefully give the Astros a realistic timeline for his return. Espada didn’t completely rule out a return in August, he did say it was a “possibility”, but fantasy managers should prepare for the chance that they’ll be without their first-round pick for another month.

HOU Starting Pitcher #77

Luis Garcia (elbow) is expected to resume playing catch soon after new imaging on his bothersome elbow came back clean.

The 27-year-old right-hander has suffered several setbacks over the past couple of months as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery, but it appears that he’s about to start ramping up again. There’s still no clear timeline for when he may be ready to join the Astros’ rotation, but it would be a major surprise if we see him there before September.
Pedro Leon

HOU Center Fielder #4

Pedro León is in right field and batting ninth on Saturday in his major league debut against the Rays.

León was called up earlier this week from Triple-A Sugar Land, but has yet to get into a contest. The 26-year-old top prospect batted .297 with 19 homers and 23 steals across 93 games this season at the Triple-A level. It’s unlikely he’ll play enough to make a significant fantasy impact, but he’s absolutely talented enough, if the opportunity is there.
