Liverpool 3-0 Manchester United: Reds run rampant on Red Devils in South Carolina

Two weeks until Premier League opening day. Tick tock.

Premier League's 'Big Six's' transfer needs
Joe Prince-Wright, Andy Edwards and Nick Mendola discuss the transfer needs of the “Big Six” Premier League clubs ahead of the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Liverpool looked raring to go ahead of Arne Slot’s debut season as Liverpool manager, as the Reds hammered rivals Manchester United 3-0 in front of 77,559 fans at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina, on Saturday.

Each side has just one more exhibition remaining before the Premier League kicks off in two weeks’ time. Liverpool will wrap up preseason against Sevilla at Anfield next Sunday, Aug. 11. Manchester United will face rivals and four-time reigning PL champions Manchester City in the FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium next Saturday.

It didn’t take Liverpool long to get on the board in this one, as Fabio Carvalho danced himself free and hit a bouncing strike just inside the far post in the 10th minute for his second goal in two games. Mohamed Salah found Curtis Jones with a well-placed cross in the 36th minute, and Kostas Tsimikas was in the right place at the right time to clean up Andre Onana’s back-post spillage in the 61st.

Updates
77,559 in attendance for a great night of Premier League action in South Carolina

Soccer is alive and well in the South.

GOAL! Kostas Tsimikas makes it 3-0 to Liverpool after a fine team move (61')

Mohamed Salah was perhaps offside in the build-up, but video review is not in use tonight. Salah played Conor Bradley in behind, Bradley found Diogo Jota whose strike wasn’t quite pure, and the ball bounced aimlessly to Kostas Tsimikas at the back post.

GOAL! Mohamed Salah finds Curtis Jones with a cross to make it 2-0 (36')

Too easy for Liverpool as the play around the left side of Man United’s defense.

GOAL! Fabio Carvalho scores again, puts Liverpool ahead (10')

Two goals in two games for the 21-year-old Portuguese winger.

Fabio Carvalho might just have a place in Liverpool’s first-team squad this season after starting the first three games of preseason and scoring in the last two now. There should be plenty of minutes to go around for Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Carvalho.

KICKOFF! We’re underway with a fantastic atmosphere in South Carolina

The sight lines and camera angles are… interesting, but Williams-Brice Stadium is electric.

We’ll likely see most starters play 60-70 minutes tonight, as each side has just one more outing before the Premier League kicks off in two weeks.
