Gary Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run against the Nationals on Sunday.

Sanchez’ home run was his eight of the year. He hit a two-run shot off Robert Garcia in the eighth inning. It was Sanchez’ first home run since May 30th. The 31-year-old catcher is hitting .228 with a .712 OPS and 27 RBI on the year.

Tobias Myers allowed one run in five innings and took the loss against the Nationals on Sunday.

Myers gave up four hits, walked one and struck out two. He’s allowed three runs or less in nine of his last 10 starts. Myers isn’t a big time strikeout pitcher with 75 punchouts in 86 1/ 3 innings this year, but his 3.02 ERA is certainly nothing to sneeze at. He’s also won five of his last 10 starts. The 25-year-old right-hander is set to face the Reds at home next week.

Rhys Hoskins went 1-for-4 and slugged a solo homer on Saturday as the Brewers fell to the Nationals in Washington D.C.

Hoskins tagged right-hander Derek Law for his 386-foot solo shot in the seventh inning, pulling the Brewers to within four runs at 6-2. That would be his only hit in four at-bats on the afternoon which included a pair of strikeouts. He has had a pretty underwhelming season overall, slashing just .220/.305/.443 with 19 long balls and 57 RBI.

MIL Starting Pitcher #32

Aaron Civale was hit hard in Saturday’s loss to the Nationals, giving up five runs on seven hits over his four innings of work.

The 29-year-old hurler punched out three batters on the afternoon while issuing one base on balls. The Nationals jumped on him right out of the gate in this one, pushing four runs across in the opening inning. Civale settled in nicely after that, allowing just a solo homer to Luis Garcia Jr. in the third inning. He generated five swings and misses on 80 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he brings a 5.14 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and a 108/37 K/BB ratio (112 innings) into Friday’s matchup against the Reds.

Brewers RHP prospect Jacob Misiorowski will make his debut on Saturday for Triple-A Nashville.

Among the top pitching prospects in baseball, Misiorowski was promoted to the doorstep of the majors earlier this week, and will convert to a full-time relief role in an effort to bolster Milwaukee’s bullpen down the home stretch. The hard-throwing 22-year-old possesses overpowering stuff and could be dominant right away in relief, which makes him a fantasy-relevant stash in all deeper mixed leagues until further notice.

MIL Starting Pitcher #47

Frankie Montas scattered nine hits over five innings on Friday in an 8-3 win over the Nationals. He gave up three runs while striking out five batters. Also, he didn’t walk a batter.

We’re all looking for big adjustments when pitchers head to new teams and Montas made some subtle changes in his first start as a Brewer. He threw the highest percentage of sinkers he’s thrown in any start this season, yet that can be because the Nationals lineup was composed mostly of left-handed batters. He also worked his fastball late in the count more often, using it as a de facto put-away pitch. It forced the most whiffs in his arsenal and his velocity was up a tick or two across the board. This was an encouraging first start for Montas.

William Contreras went 1-for-4 with a monstrous solo homer on Friday against the Nationals.

Contreras’ early season power surge feels like ages ago. This home run was just his fourth since May 25th after hitting eight up to that point in the season. He’s struggled to lift the ball since then and hasn’t made hard contact as consistently. That is, until this behemoth blast.
Yonny Hernandez

Brewers released INF Yonny Hernández.

Hernández has been cut loose by Milwaukee after batting .241/.333/.309 with two homers and 13 steals across 322 plate appearances this season for Triple-A Nashville. The versatile 26-year-old infielder, who has gotten into 69 games in the majors over the last four seasons between the Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Rangers, signed a minor league deal with the Brewers last November and never made it back to the big leagues.

Brewers optioned LHP Tyler Jay to Triple-A Nashville.

Jay was up for a couple days with the Brewers as extra left-handed relief depth as they navigated the trade deadline. The 30-year-old journeyman southpaw has made five relief appearances this season between the Mets and Brewers.

Jackson Chourio went 2-for-5 with a run scored on Wednesday in the Brewers’ loss to the Braves.

Chourio posted a pair of hits out of Milwaukee’s leadoff spot, which wasn’t enough in a low-scoring affair as the Brewers went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and starnded nine men on base in a losing effort. The 20-year-old former top prospect has been on a tear over the past few weeks, batting .330 (37-for-112) with five homers and four steals over his last 30 games.
