Marte knocked a base hit in the first inning, then came through in a big spot for the Diamondbacks in the ninth. With two runners on, he took James McArthur deep for a three-run shot to extend Arizona’s lead. It was Marte’s third straight game with a home run. The 30-year-old second baseman is slashing an excellent .296/.367/.529 with 22 homers, 70 runs scored, 64 RBI, and six steals across 436 plate appearances.

He also doubled. Ohtani leads the NL in average (.309), OBP (.397), slugging (.631), homers and runs scored (86) this season. He’s also tied for second in the majors in steals, though he’s definitely not catching Elly De La Cruz (57) in that category.

Glasnow struck out nine and walked none. He really should have given up just one run, but center fielder Andy Pages got turned around a couple of times going for a flyball in the second, gifting Nick Castellanos a triple. Glasnow moved to 9-6 with a 3.54 ERA.

The Dodgers had Evan Phillips warming up in the eighth, but when it came time for the ninth, Hudson was used for the third time in four days. He allowed a leadoff single, but he then retired the last three hitters in the Phillies lineup, as the team declined to pinch-hit for Austin Hays or Garrett Stubbs. Hudson will almost certainly get Tuesday off now, perhaps leading to a save chance for Phillips or Joe Kelly.

In what could well be a playoff preview, Nola got outdueled by Tyler Glasnow tonight. The Phillies have now lost four straight Nola starts, though this is the first of those in which Nola has taken the decision. They went 15-4 in his first 19 starts.

That’s 21 straight losses for the White Sox. Sears allowed three hits, walked one and struck out five in an efficient outing, and he’s moved to 9-8 with a 4.35 ERA for the season. That win-loss record is a huge improvement from last year, which he finished 5-16 with a 4.54 ERA.

Bush allowed just two hits, but he walked five, hit a batter and threw wild pitch in a nervous outing. He’ll likely show better control next time out, but fantasy value isn’t in the cards.

He then finished the game in right field. Butler was being rested against a lefty after going 1-for-11 with seven strikeouts against the Dodgers over the weekend. The homer tonight was his 13th in 80 games this season.

We probably shouldn’t make sweeping judgments on Robert, given that he’s playing for a comatose ballclub, but this is getting rather ugly. He’s hit .143/.182/.254 with a 32/3 K/BB in 16 games since the All-Star break. One more bad game will drop his OPS under .700 for the season.

Previous indications were that Martin would begin a rehab assignment Wednesday, but it appears the Red Sox will activate him without one. Cooper Criswell or Josh Winckowski could be demoted.

Smith’s home run was his 12th of the year. He hit a game-winning walkoff home run off Caleb Ferguson in the 10th inning. Smith is hitting .278 with an .811 OPS and 48 RBI on the year.
