The Padres signed LHP Austin Davis to a minor league contract.

Davis was designated for assignment after the trade deadline to make room for the Padres’ new additions. He elected free agency after San Diego sent him outright to Triple-A El Paso and that’s presumably where he’ll report now. Davis had a 9.00 ERA in seven innings with the Padres, but has been solid at Triple-A this year with a 3.10 ERA in 29 innings.
Jurickson Profar

SD Left Fielder #10

Jurickson Profar went 2-for-4 with a homer and three runs scored on Sunday afternoon as the Padres routed the Rockies 10-2 in San Diego.

Profar victimized Rockies’ right-hander Cal Quantrill with his 389-foot (101.0-mph EV) solo shot in the fifth inning that extended the Padres’ lead to 3-1. He then led off the seventh inning with a double and scored on an RBI double off the bat of Manny Machado. Profar also drew a walk in the eighth and raced around to score on an RBI single by Machado. On the season, the 31-year-old outfielder is still slashing an impressive .300/.393/.491 with 19 homers and 71 RBI.
David Peralta

David Peralta blasted a three-run homer on Sunday afternoon as the Padres routed the Rockies in San Diego.

Peralta did his damage off of right-hander Justin Lawrence in the sixth inning, with his 393-foot three-run shot increasing the Friars’ lead to 6-1. The 36-year-old outfielder also worked a walk in the contest, finishing the afternoon 1-for-2. On the season, he’s slashing an underwhelming .233/.298/.342 with three homers and 14 RBI.
Matt Waldron

SD Starting Pitcher #61

Matt Waldron was terrific in Sunday’s victory over the Rockies, striking out seven batters over 5 2/3 innings of one-run baseball.

The 27-year-old knuckleballer allowed just two hits and two walks during the impressive outing. He served up a solo homer to Brenton Doyle in the fourth inning, but aside from that he was absolutely phenomenal. Waldron got nine whiffs on 80 pitches on the afternoon — five of them on his knuckleball — while registering a CSW of 34 percent. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling as he carries a 3.79 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 116/36 K/BB ratio (128 1/3 innings) into Sunday’s showdown against the Marlins in Miami.
Martin Perez

SD Starting Pitcher #54

Martín Pérez held the Rockies to just one run over six innings in a no-decision Saturday.

It was the first start as a member of the Padres for Pérez, and it went very well. The southpaw allowed a solo homer to Hunter Goodman in the third, but he allowed just two more hits for the rest of the game while striking out seven against one walk. He threw 60-of-80 pitches for strikes, and kept Colorado off-balance for the overwhelming majority of the game. Pérez gets another friendly matchup over the weekend against the Marlins in Miami.
Robert Suarez

Robert Suarez fired a scoreless ninth to get a save against the Rockies on Saturday.

Suarez didn’t allow a hit while picking up a strikeout, and he needed just nine pitches to get through the inning — seven of those landing for strikes The 33-year-old is up to 24 saves on the year, and it’s worth pointing out that Tanner Scott worked the eighth inning while allowing a run. It appears Suarez will get the bulk of save chances even with Scott added to the bullpen.
Matt Waldron

SD Starting Pitcher #61

Padres’ manager Mike Shildt confirmed that Matt Waldron will start on Sunday against the Rockies.

The Padres had been hopeful that Michael King would be ready to take the hill on Sunday, but instead Waldron will have his start moved up a couple of days to take his place. The 27-year-old knuckleballer has posted a 3.89 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 109/34 K/BB ratio over 122 2/3 innings in 22 starts this season. King could be ready to take the ball on Tuesday against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.
Lake Bachar

SD Relief Pitcher #79

Padres selected the contract of RHP Lake Bachar from Triple-A El Paso.

San Diego had 24 hours to add Bachar to their 40-man roster after he triggered the opt-out in his minor league deal with the club and the Padres did just that on Friday afternoon. The 29-year-old righty will remain stationed at Triple-A El Paso for now, but figures to get a look in the majors at some point down the home stretch, if the need arises due to injury or ineffectiveness.

SD Right Fielder #23

Fernando Tatis Jr (femur) remains without a timetable to return.

Tatis underwent an MRI during last month’s All-Star break, which revealed enough healing that he was cleared for light baseball activities, including swinging and running, but it’s unclear when he’ll be ready to return. The 25-year-old has been out since late June due to a stress reaction in his right femur.
Michael King

SD Relief Pitcher #34

Michael King was scratched from Sunday’s start against the Rockies due to left calf soreness.

King was in line for a tasty matchup against Colorado later this weekend, but will instead wind up getting a few extra days to rest and recover after being struck in the left calf last Saturday by a 109 mph line drive against the Orioles. The 29-year-old was able to play catch on Friday without any issues and should be ready to take the ball at some point early next week. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern for fantasy managers at this juncture.
