Luis García Jr. went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base against the Giants on Monday.

Garcia Jr.'s stolen base was his 18th of the season. With 13 home runs, 53 RBI and a .290 batting average, he’s putting together quite the season for fantasy managers. These are all career-highs for the 24-year-old Garcia Jr., who has already played in parts of five major league seasons.

Patrick Corbin allowed four runs in six innings and took the loss against the Giants on Monday.

Corbin gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out six. He allowed a solo home run to Tyler Fitzgerald in the first inning and a three-run home run to Matt Chapman in the third inning. That was the extent of the scoring off Corbin. He has a 5.88 ERA and has won only two of his 23 starts this season. The 35-year-old left-hander is set to face the Angels at home this weekend.

Trey Lipscomb is on the bench in favor of Ildemaro Vargas for Monday’s game against the Giants.

The Nationals should have promoted either José Tena or Andrés Chaparro in Lipscomb’s place when they initially acquired the two infielders at the trade deadline, but they decided to have them open up in Triple-A instead. One imagines that the change will come soon, probably to Tena but maybe instead to Brady House. Lipscomb has been a disaster since returning to the majors, hitting .156/.206/.188 in 69 plate appearances. He’s at just .209/.275/.242 in 202 plate appearances overall.

WAS Left Fielder #24

Joey Gallo, out for nearly two months with a hamstring strain, will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday.

Gallo will play first base on Tuesday and right field on Thursday. We’re not sure there’s much reason for the Nationals to bring him back at this point, but if they do, it should be as an outfielder. Andrés Chaparro rates as more interesting if they want to add another name to the mix at DH and first base.

Garcia’s home run was his 12th. He hit a solo shot off Tobias Myers in the first inning. He’s been on fire in his last 22 games as he’s 33-for-83 (.397) with six home runs and 17 RBI. Garcia is hitting .290 with a .782 OPS and 53 RBI on the season.
James Wood

WAS Left Fielder #29

James Wood went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI against the Brewers on Sunday.

Wood cleared the bases with a triple off Hoby Milner in the sixth inning. He has hits in seven of his last eight games and is 12-for-28 (.428) with no home runs and seven RBI in that time. Wood is hitting .257 with a .717 OPS and 20 RBI on the season.

Kyle Finnegan threw a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Brewers on Sunday.

The save was Finnegan’s 30th. He allowed a leadoff single to Rhys Hoskins before getting Blake Perkins to fly out and Brice Turang to hit into a game-ending double play. His ERA is 3.30 on the year. Finnegan continues to be one of the top closers in baseball this year.

WAS Starting Pitcher #70

Mitchell Parker threw six shutout innings and got the win in the Nationals’ 4-3 victory over the Brewers on Sunday.

Parker gave up three hits, walked three and struck out three. The win was his sixth of the season and first since June 16th. It was his first quality start since July 8th and first start with at least six innings pitched and no runs allowed since April 21st. The Brewers offense never got anything going against Parker on Sunday. He has a 4.06 ERA on the season. The 24-year-old left-hander is set to face the Angels at home next week.

Luis Garcia Jr. went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, double and three runs scored on Saturday, propelling the Nationals to a 6-4 victory over the visiting Brewers.

Garcia started a four-run rally in the opening inning with a two-out double off of Aaron Civale and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Keibert Ruiz. He then slugged a 400-foot solo homer off of Civale to start the third inning that made it a 5-0 ballgame. Garcia also smacked a leadoff single in the fifth inning, swiped second base and raced around to score on an RBI single by James Wood. With his three-hit attack, the 24-year-old second baseman is now hitting .287/.321/.451 with 12 homers, 52 RBI and 17 stolen bases.
Alex Call

WAS Center Fielder #17

Alex Call went 3-for-3 and drove in a run on Saturday as the Nationals triumphed over the Brewers.

All three of Call’s hits in the ballgame were singles, including a run-scoring knock in the opening inning that extended the Nationals’ early lead to 4-0. The 29-year-old outfielder has been seeing pretty regular action in right field since the trade deadline and is now slashing .429/.568/.607 with a homer, five RBI and three swipes through his first 37 plate appearances on the season.
